It is important for our surgery to have up to date contact information for our patients. We are able to engage more effectively with you if you keep your records up to date with us. Please call in at reception to change any relevant information such as mobile numbers, home phone numbers and address changes.

We have switched to a new SMS appointment reminder service, iPlato, which will deliver appointment reminders to your mobile. Unfortunately many text messages never reach our patients because of incorrect mobile details.

Staff Training Days

Please note we have several Staff training days throughout the year when surgeries associated with the West Kent Clinical Commissioning Group close for half day training. Our next half day closure is scheduled for Tuesday, the 7th of November 2017. Doors close from 1pm onwards. For emergencies, please call 111 or in the event of life threatening situations, please call 999. If you need to refill your prescription, please make sure you hand it in on time to either collect on the Monday or Wednesday, as the Dispensary will also be closed on these dates.

Gluten Free Products Discontinuation on prescription

Dear Patients

Please note from the 1st of Sept 2017 all gluten free food products previously available on prescription will no longer be issued by your GP. This has been a decision taken by the CCG. The following was stated by Dr Bob Bowes from the West Kent CCG:

At our Governing Body meeting on 25 July, NHS West Kent Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) decided that, from 1 September 2017, gluten-free food will no longer be routinely prescribed for people with coeliac disease and other gluten-sensitive illnesses in West Kent.

NHS funding will continue for gluten-free products for people with Phenylketonuria (PKU) who need specific low protein food.

What this means for you is that, from 1 September, your GP will no longer be able to prescribe gluten-free food.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Bernie Strange as our Advanced Nurse Practitioner and will welcome her on board from the 1st of September 2017. Advanced Nurse Practitioners are alternative healthcare providers who are trained to deliver high standards of patient care including examinations, diagnosis, prescriptions as appropriate and referrals for investigations to other healthcare providers as necessary.

After many years’  of service at North Ridge Medical Practice, Dr Wood has decided to reduce her hours. Bernie, in the capacity of Advanced Nurse Practitioner, will look  after Dr Wood’s patients on a Thursday.

Access to Patient Notes and Medical History

Our patients are able to see limited patient information on their Patient Online Access accounts. It should also be noted that much of our patient records are handwritten notes which gets transferred between practices when our patients move. Often these handwritten notes are very old and not very legible ie baby immunisations. If you require any information not showing on your records online, please do contact the surgery and we will be happy to assist you with any queries.

Emails to the practice


If you have a medical concern please call and make an appointment with reception. It is important that our patients call to make appointments as we cannot receive appointment requests via our email address. Should you wish to make electronic appointments, ask reception for a Patient Access account. They will provide you with logon details for you to set up at home. This will enable you to make appointments online.

Any correspondence with the surgery needs to be sent via the surgery email address:  north.ridge@nhs.net. Do not use any other email addresses, including gp email addresses, for correspondence with the surgery.

PPG AGM 2017

The Annual General Meeting for North Ridge Medical Practice Patient Participation Group was held on Thursday, January the 26th at 7pm at Bowles Lodge, All Saints Road, Hawkhurst. The standing committee was re-elected and the posts of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer will be voted on at the next committee meeting.
